Maintenance and care

Maintenance and care are key ingredients for the success of Dundee Urban Orchard.

While it’s easy to plant an orchard, ongoing care is needed to ensure that an orchard remains productive over time.

With this in mind Dundee Urban Orchard run regular maintenance and care workshops covering the planning, planting, pruning, and harvesting of orchards. These workshops take place across the city.

In addition to the above Dundee Urban Orchard are looking for individuals to form a Maintenance and Care committee to act as MCs for the Orchard City network. Jointly inspired by Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ Maintenance Art Manifesto (1969) and the buffoonery of the Rebel Clown Army, the Maintenance and Care committee will help organise celebratory events in support of biodiversity and cultural diversity in Dundee.

As part of the above aim, and in collaboration with On Site Projects, we ran a series of Orchard Corps workshops to encourage cultural activism in the city. We also contributed to Dundee’s first Take One Action film festival.

If you’d like to learn more about our Maintenance and Care events or if your interested in becoming an MC for the city, please send Dundee Urban Orchard an email.

Everyone is welcome!
